While MediaTek's Dimensity processors are one of the most popular processing solutions on the market today, and can be traced back to dozens of 5G handsets in various brands, the company still remembers its previous 4G processors, the Helio series. On Thursday, July 15, 2021, it unveiled two new members for the family, Helio G96 and Helio G88. These two chipsets should be considered a continuation of the company's two models Helio G95 and Helio G85, which were introduced in September and May 2020, respectively. The G96 and G88 processor cores are no different than before, and in the case of the G96 we have even encountered a setback in terms of graphics!

The Helio G96 is apparently still a 12nm chipset designed like its previous counterparts, the Helio G90T and Helio G95, for mid-range handsets. The processor structure of this chipset has not changed compared to the G95 and once again includes two 2.05 GHz Arm Cortex-A76 cores in the upper category and 6 2 GHz A55 cores in the lower category. Surprisingly, the processor has moved completely backwards in terms of graphics, and while the G95 and G90 used the Mali-G76 MC4 graphics, in the G96 it replaced the Mali-G57 MC2, which was also seen in the Dimensity 700. She eats.

One of the most important positive changes to the G96 is its camera and video signal processing (ISP) portion, which now supports 108 megapixel single camera resolution. The resolution of the dual cameras in this processor, of course, has been reduced to two 16-megapixel units, while in the G95 it was possible to use two 16-megapixel and 24-megapixel cameras together. The G96 continues to shrink in frame rate per second, while the G95 supports 64 megapixels at 22.5 fps, up from 32 megapixels at 30 frames per second.

The maximum screen resolution supported by this processor is still 1080 x 2520 pixels, but now it also supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Support for 4K video capture at 30 frames per second and full HD and HD at 120 and 240 frames per second, respectively, are other notable points in this area that have not changed compared to the G95.

In terms of memory, we do not see any significant change, and LPDDR4X RAM with a maximum frequency of 2,133 MHz and eMMC 5.1 and UFS 2.2 memories are covered in G96. A slight difference here is the support for UFS 2.2 memory, which did not fit in the G95 and supported up to UFS 2.1 memory. Wi-Fi is still version 5 or ac, but Bluetooth has been upgraded from 5 to 5.2, and support for dual-frequency routers (only in Galileo/BeiDou/QZSS) has been added to the list of features./p>

in the structure of this processor and of course Helio G88 talks about gaming technology called HyperEngine 2.0 Lite, in which the relationship between the processor, GPU and memory is managed intelligently and dynamically in proportion to the amount of energy required, heat generated and other gameplay factors. In this section, the type of user connection to the network is also managed to get a faster response and a more reliable connection.

    Helio G88

In Helio G88, we do not encounter any difference in terms of processing cores and 2 A75 cores with frequency 2 GHz and 6 A55 cores are still in place. This time we do not see any change in the graphics and the same Mali-G52 MC2 with a frequency of 1 GHz is also present here.

ISP This processor, as one of the notable changes, now supports a resolution of 64 megapixels, which was lower than the G85 at 48 megapixels. The maximum resolution of dual cameras on these two chipsets has not changed, of course, and is still 16 megapixels. The maximum screen resolution on phones equipped with the Helio G88 processor has not changed from the G85 and is still 1080 x 2520 pixels, but now the screen refresh rate can exceed the usual 60 Hz and reach 120 Hz.

Change in the fifth version of Bluetooth, WiFi ac, LTE connection speed and satellite routers The G88 is unmatched, with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM at 1,800MHz and support for 5.1M eMMC memory.

It has not been released, but we can expect to see the presence of these two processors in the lower and middle handsets soon.
